2019 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HD HEAVY DUTY INDEED

2019 CHEVROLET SILVERADO HD HEAVY DUTY INDEED

chevrolet silverado

When it comes to heavy duty trucks, Chevrolet decided to take the “heavy” to a whole new level. Speaking directly with customers who already own HD Chevrolets or for those in the market for a new one, Chevrolet successfully combined all the desired features and capabilities in the all-new Silverado HD lineup that not only offers up one of the masculine-looking trucks on the market right now, but also one of the most dependable and hardworking.

First, let’s get some numbers out of the way: The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado HD has two available engines to choose from; a 6.6L direct-injected V8 that produces 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. That’s 41 more ponies and 81 lb-ft torque more than the outgoing 6.0L V8. And then there’s the big boy: the 6.6L Duramax turbodiesel V8 that’s good for 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque.

You might recognize that diesel engine from the previous generation, but this time around Chevrolet has coupled it with an all-new 10-speed Allison automatic transmission, which means all that power and pull (all 910 lb-ft) is available in first gear.

What does all that mean for the HD driver who needs to pull and pull heavy on a daily basis? It means the 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500 duallie now has a max towing capacity of 35,500lbs. Read that again. That’s up 52% from the previous generation. Payloads can vary from 3,600 to 7,500lbs depending on which model you choose.

If you fully deck out your 2019 Chevrolet Silverado HD with all the towing goodies, you’ll also get a 15-camera view system that makes it a virtual breeze to tow something big and heavy, even if you’ve never done it before. From a camera out the back of a solid trailer (the “invisible trailer camera”) to side view, all-around, birdseye, and even an inside-the-trailer cam for those towing livestock or uber precious cargo, the system is designed to keep you and your towing goods safe.

A few other interesting add-ons to this year’s Silverado HD trucks: the diesels are now equipped with an after-run feature that will keep your engine running for up to 15 minutes after you turn the truck off to cool down if you’ve just towed a rather heavy load. There’s also a factory installed integrated power take-off unit, so no need to thread the plug through the front grille anymore during those colder months.

In terms of exterior and interior design, everything about the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado is big and bold and uber manly. Just how it should be. The inside is pretty standard Chevy fare, with lots of tech features like power seats and integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. And from the outside, there’s an all-new front grille that sees CHEVROLET replace the golden bowtie right the way across the oh-so-large front façade. There are even bigger integrated side steps (large enough to fit a size 13 shoe) around the truck bed to make it easier to get in and out of the bed.
